Canton Theatre Shines Brighter with $20K Grant for Exterior Makeover
The Historic Canton Theatre will undergo vital renovations thanks to a generous grant from the Fox Theatre’s ‘Fox Gives’ program
The Historic Canton Theatre is set to dazzle once again, thanks to a generous $20,000 grant from the renowned Fox Theatre’s ‘Fox Gives’ program! On November 7, 2024, the Canton City Council gave the green light for these crucial funds to be allocated towards revitalizing the theatre’s exterior—one of the city’s treasured landmarks.
Nestled in the heart of Downtown Canton, this historic gem will see a major facelift that includes refreshing its paint and restoring its iconic signage, windows, doors, and trim. Additionally, plans to repair the marquee lighting promise to enhance its appeal, making it a must-visit spot for locals and visitors alike.
Since its inception in 2008, the Fox Gives program has dedicated over $3.7 million to support historic theaters across Georgia, ensuring that they remain vibrant hubs of community life. As Leigh Burns, the director of community partnerships for Fox Gives, put it, “Every year, we look forward to issuing these single-year grants to truly impact communities throughout Georgia.”
Canton’s Theatre Events and Facilities Director, Kristin Norton Green, expressed gratitude for the grant, noting the Theatre’s longstanding role in the community as a beacon of entertainment and art for over 100 years. “The gracious support of the Fox Theatre will allow us to make much-needed exterior renovations which will keep our Historic Theatre shining for years to come,” she remarked.
The revitalization of the Historic Canton Theatre not only preserves its legacy but will also contribute to a lively downtown atmosphere, inviting the community to gather and enjoy the arts.
